EGB 139 Building

Mexico City, Mexico
2018

Architecture remains in time and transcends it through collective memory and the memory of the city. Colonies located in the center of the city, such as Santa María de la Ribera or San Rafael, where this project is located, are characterized by the conservation of particular forms and spaces that respond to the needs of their inhabitants at different times. Therefore, one of the premises of this project was to devise a solution that is distinguished not only by its architecture but also by the reflection of the society in which it is located.

Based on the concepts of functional architecture, and as part of a set of prototype buildings for temporary stays, we developed a rental housing system that is characterized by its simplicity and pragmatism. The use of few materials, such as exposed concrete, glass and steel, was essential to give the system character, as well as to make all resources efficient to the maximum.

The structural solution was key to the development of this series of buildings, in this case it is based on a grid of three linear meters on the façade that begins with a double-height commercial porch and continues with the apartments on the next levels. In such a way, the repetition of the module achieves a simple and timeless project that improves the quality of life of its inhabitants and passers-by.
