EL AGUAJE PARK

Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas
2023

In the heart of several of Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas's most popular neighborhoods, and unfortunately with high rates of insecurity, lies the ElAguaje Park and Community Center.

A public space for the community, named after the spring that rises during the rainy season and runs through the area. The starting point of this project was an analysis of the site todevelop spaces that meet the needs of users and improve the pre-existing space, which due to lack of maintenance and infrastructure had become a precarious andunsafe place.

Thus, the result is an accessible and inclusive public promenadesurrounded by existing trees where residents can walk safely on a daily basisor go to spend time with friends and/or family. As part of the complex, two soccer and basketball courts promote physical activity while a community center invites the learning and recreation of the neighbors.

In the center, a new kiosk stands, a key point of the complex, where residents actively meet to make decisions about the community.

On the other hand, near the spring, a multi-purpose area was enabled forthe responsible use of water. In which mainly women go to wash their clotheswhile their children play in the pool - implemented in the same area with awater recycling system to avoid contamination of the stream.

The El Aguaje Park and Community Center stands as an agent of change forthe transformation of the different neighborhoods, promoting the social and economic development of the community. It is a dignified and safe space where people can develop various cultural and recreational activities, without the need to travel to another place. Which plays an important role in reducingsocial lag, providing residents with better opportunities; spaces where they can coexist or simply feel in a safe place.
